Apple Cider Sangria

Yum

Apple Cider Sangria. Fragrant, light, and refreshing, this drink will remind you of a fresh picked apple with a little zing to it! - Slice of Southern

Want to discover the BEST fall sipping drink ever?

APPLE CIDER SANGRIA

Fragrant, light, and refreshing, this drink will remind you of a fresh picked apple with a little zing to it! - Slice of Southern

Yes, this has got to be the best festive fall adult drink around.  Sangria is a classic cocktail that will serve a crowd.  This version puts a spin on the original and gives you warm and fruity autumn flavors.   In fact, I served this at our Thanksgiving bash and it was such a hit that we made more the next day!  Even though it is close to Christmas I still wanted to share this with you because this would be a PERFECT holiday drink.  It's still apple season and why not take advantage of it.  I like to make use of all the specialty varieties before they are gone.  Go forth I say, drink and be merry!

The best part is this sangria is it's infused with a combination of in-season apples and ginger.  Fragrant, light, and refreshing, this drink will remind you of a fresh picked apple with a little zing to it!

I used an Italian Pinot Grigio (Ruffino) for the wine as a base.  Then I added apple vodka, (great for apple martinis...) apple cider, plenty of fresh cut apples, then topped it with some ginger ale for sparkle.  No extra added sugar here, this is sweet enough with the cider.

The assembly is quick.  You only need a nice glass pitcher to show off the pretty colors and fruit.  Mix it up just before adding the ginger ale and place it in the refrigerator to meld together.  Then top it with ginger ale just before serving.

This truly is an amazing drink.  I hope that you will try this over the holiday season and come back and let me know what you think.

Enjoy!

Apple Cider Sangria

2 – 3 apples, diced ( I used 1 green - Golden Delicious and 2 red - Jazz)
1 bottle Pinot Grigio, (such as Ruffino)
1 cup Apple Cider
1/2 cup Apple Vodka (such as New Amsterdam)
1 can Diet Ginger Ale

Dice the apples and add them to a large glass pitcher. Add in the wine, apple cider and vodka. Stir to combine.  Refrigerate at least 1-2 hours.

Add chilled ginger ale to the pitcher just before serving.  Stir to combine.  Add fruit to the glasses and fill with sangria.

A fast and fresh Strawberry Cinnamon Smoothies that healthy and delicious!!! Make one today! - Slice of Southern

Happy Labor's Day!  I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday. Here's a quick and easy recipe I wanted to share with you today.

You may not know that I love a good farmer's market and now I'm fortunate that we have one that sets up every Wednesday in our work complex.  It's heaven to be able to go to the farmer's market during the week!  There is one particular stand that sells the best organic fruit and vegetables.  I was in heaven looking at all the food, and walked away with much more items that I should have.

One treat was their strawberries!  Plump, juicy, deep red strawberries that promised to be sweet and luscious!  I couldn't wait to get these home and make a smoothie with them.  Smoothies fall in the "fast and fresh" category and are simple, quick and absolutely delishhh!

So a strawberry smoothie is very tasty but also quite ordinary.  So let's amp this baby up a bit and make a Strawberry Cinnamon Smoothie!  Have you every had cinnamon and strawberry?  Well, you are about to venture on a wonderful sweet and earthy journey with your taste buds.  This combination hits you with the sweet flavor of the berries and then on the way down you get that kick of heat and spice from the cinnamon.  HEAVEN!

What a great combination for a smoothie plus the health benefits that you get from both strawberries and cinnamon.  It's a win win in our house!  Let it be one in yours too by trying this right away.  There are still plenty of strawberries around so get them while they are still ripe and try this drink today!

Enjoy!

Quick and Easy Strawberry Lemonade

Yum

Quick and Easy Strawberry Lemonade: Savor the last days of summer with this DELICIOUS drink! Slice of Southern

I've been making this Quick and Easy Strawberry Lemonade all summer long and we absolutely love it!

With the Labor Day holiday and all the festivities coming up I think that this is a good time to share this recipe with you.  With a few simple ingredients you'll be sitting outside, sipping strawberry lemonade, in no time!

QUICK AND EASY STRAWBERRY LEMONADE

A pint of strawberries, your favorite jarred lemonade, and a little sugar is really all you need to make this thirst quenching drink.  It's a semi-homemade thing and there is nothing wrong with that!  Especially if you are short on time and dying of thirst.  NOTE:  you may not need any sugar if your strawberries are really ripe and sweet, as the jarred lemonade will already have sugar in it.  Our strawberries were juicy sweet and I didn't have to use any sugar, but you will need to taste test to see.

I blended the strawberries until they were a puree and added that to my bottle of lemonade.  Tasted it for sweetness and it was perfect as is.

Next thing I know, is we are sitting by the pool drinking Quick and Easy Strawberry Lemonade, listening to the birds sing, and savoring the last days of summer!  Man that's good....

Enjoy!

Quick and Easy Strawberry Lemonade

4 cups of jarred Lemonade (any brand)
1 pint of strawberries, cleaned and hulled
sugar or simple syrup (optional for sweetness)

Pour ready made lemonade in a bottle or pitcher.  In a blender puree the strawberries.  Pour in to a mason jar.  (This will keep for about 1 week in the refrigerator.)  Add about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of strawberry puree to the bottle or pitcher.  Stir and taste for sweetness.  Add sugar or simple syrup to adjust sweetness to your liking. (You may not need any sugar, so be sure to taste.)  Stir vigorously and then serve over ice.

Tropical Sunset Smoothie

Take yourself virtually to the tropics with my Tropical Sunset Smoothie.  It's a perfectly refreshing drink made for hot summers. - Slice of Southern

Last year for our anniversary we took a wonderful trip to Hawaii.  I'm a beach lover at heart and love all the wonderful things that Hawaii has to offer such as tropical weather, hiking, flowers, beaches, and food.

More specifically I love all the tropical flavors you can get there but one of my all time favorite fruits is the pineapple.

Since it's a hot, hot summer and I'm missing Hawaii I thought I would make a Tropical Sunset Smoothie to bring me back.  We had a smoothie bar in our resort and we loved to stop by there and grab a smoothie made with fresh fruit and sipping on it while watching the waves crash on the lava rocks.

This is my ode to Hawaii, made with juicy sweet pineapple, and plump strawberries which give it that sunset feel.  This Tropical Sunset Smoothie completely reminds me of Hawaii.  I can feel the trade winds blowing and total relaxation is not far away!

Discover the summer's best new drink!

Everyone needs a damn good thirst quenching drink during the hot days of summer.  We drink a lot of water around here (2nd to iced tea!) and love it straight up or fruit infused. That's great but sometimes we are looking for a bit more, something more refreshing.

So picture a drink that smells like fresh, tingly, cooling mint as you bring the glass to your mouth.  Then you take a sip and have a mix of cool undertones of cucumbers and the tingle of sparkling water.  Sounds refreshing right?  I certainly think so!

REFRESHING MINT AND CUCUMBER SPARKLING WATER

Just by using a few exquisite ingredients that work well together you stumble upon a miraculous secret.  One that says "Yes...this is the one, the drink I'm craving."

Make a pitcher or carafe of this wonderful concoction to have on hand during the day, by the pool, or with a light meal.  This drink will remind you of the feeling you get when you bite into a York Peppermint Patty.  Refreshing and light.

You'll find this so easy to make your sure to want this all summer long.  Make sure to stock up on some mint!

Enjoy!

Refreshing Mint and Cucumber Sparkling Water

serves 6

1 large bunch of fresh mint
1/2 cup sugar (or Splenda)
1/2 cup water
1 medium, English cucumber - cut in to thin rounds
3 cups of plain sparkling water

Roughly chop 1/2 of the mint leaves.  Set aside.  In a small saucepan add the sugar and water.  Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar has dissolved.  Remove from heat and add the chopped mint and half of the cucumber.  Allow to cool.

Pour the sugar mixture through a strainer into a pitcher or large carafe.  Push against the mint and cucumbers in the strainer to release some of the flavors into the pitcher.  Add the remaining cucumber slices and some whole mint leaves to the pitcher.  Add the sparkling water and stir to combine.  Add ice to the pitcher.  Serve over ice in glasses with a slice of lime.
